Make it possible to pause a task
Sometimes when I'm in then middle of a task I get a phone call which I time as well. After this phone call I would like to be able to pick one of the previous tasks and continue that one without having to enter the tag and the comment again.

My wife is an attorney in they are required by the state bar to bill in 1/10s of an hour (6 minute increments). So she has a system of what most things "cost" the client. 2/10th is a typical phone call, 1/10th if she gets answering machine and leaves a message, etc. I thought you were referring to something similar.

zachary k, no, i'm in the technology sector, have had two brothers at the bar, and did some work _years_ ago on office automation for a boston law firm. in the past, i made my own "tc" (as in Time Clock) command as a unix shell. it was as simple at slimtimer, but not nearly so effective, since s.t. has tags and oodles of reports. suitable use of tag names and you can generate just about any slice and dice report you want.
explain the 2/10 = call, 1/10 = leave a message, sounds intriguing. -- really.

Applemcg, are you an attorney by any chance? 2/10's for a phone call...1/10 for leaving a message....

rather than "pause" a task, how about a "push-pop" model. e.g. after the phone call, check the appropriate box for the interrupting task, and enter the number of units, where user has set a preference for seconds, min/10, minutes, ... it takes the activity off the critical path. e.g. i don't want to pause a task while answering the phone.

I'm sure many of your users are programmers -- I am. Need some help? :) Just sayin.

Give me the time tracking functionality of the freshbooks iPhone app on Android an I'll drop freshbooks. Specially: keep track of multiple timers, switch from one to the other, and sync at the end of the day when I say so.

This would be great- making it possible to pause a job.
Otherwise, thanks for a great program! -

joshcoady, you can just click the task you want - slim'll automatically switch you to that task… but that's not what the rest of us are looking for. Enter a comment while on Task A, click to Task B, click back to Task A, and your comment is gone. We want an easy way to reuse comments, especially the last one we were using on that task.

Just make sure you click on the actual name of the task--dont click the checkbox. Clicking the checkbox itself will mark the task as completed and remove it from the list.

I believe this feature is already implemented. I use the popup and when I start working on a task, I click on its name, call it Task A. Then, if I need to start a different task, I click on Task A to stop its timer and then on Task B to start its timer. When I am done with Task B and ready to go back to Task A, I click on Task B to stop its timer and then on Task A to start its timer up again.

This may help show how I see it working: http://syntap.com/products_timestamp_productinfo.htm (only with better interface obviously!).
This program has a built-in slacking timer, so you can start a job and then flag it as slacking. I found it very useful, as I could track time wasted. Which is slightly different to pausing a task (to do another) but both could be implemented together?

What about a drop-down list to choose one of the most recent tasks to continue?

Solution suggestion: By default when starting a task, use whatever tags+comments were used in the last entry for that task. Advantage: A user would only need to update the fields when he wants to change or clear them. Disadvantage: This is a bother for those users that rarely reuse tags+comments, so perhaps make this a per-user setting?
